2005 Subaru Outback XT, Manual, 190,000 miles. $5,251.

What do y’all think? Yes, the dealer is a former car wash, but they do have a Lancia Monte Carlo and two Honda Z600s on the property.

I do like that dealer, they have some cool stuff.

But no. Too much for milage. Don’t care what the market is or what KBB says, you can get a much better more reliable car for that money. It might be what it’s worth, but it’s a bad deal.

That’s a lot of miles for over 5 grand.

I bought a 70,000 mile pickup truck in truck country where values are laughably inflated on anything with a bed for a grand less than that.

In other words, CP. Even if it is an XT.

I endorse getting an XT. I don't endorse getting that XT

To echo what others have said, too much. If you're going to go for high mileage, suck it up and get a non-turbo or H6.

CP

What condition are the Z600s . . . .

K.

The cleanest one hasn’t moved since 2005 or so.

They also have a clean-ish G35 for the same price. It’s got about 165,000 on it.

Have you been to this dealer before?

Never been, but about a year ago they had like 6 really jalop cars for sale. Like 70s nissan pickups, MR2, a Volvo p1800, just some cool, clean, original cars for not that much money.

Looks like they’ve transcended that though and have cars most people actually want now.

Everywhere. The Lancia is clean, as is one of the Subaru Brats. There’s a solid BMW 2002 as well. It’s in Fuquay.

Next time you’re in town, I’m going to take you to this place. Your mind will be blown. Now, they still have a really eccentric collection of vehicles that are not for sale and in the process of restoration. You’ve got to see it.

Ugh. OK. They have a nice Cherokee for $2850.

Good point. We almost got a non-turbo 2005 automatic Outback with 155,000 on it for $5,000. Shoulda done it.

08. The year isn’t so much the issue as the mileage and price (though there are a few extra things to look out for in the 05/06 models). Mine is at 168k and would be about $7k, so $5200 is a bit high for three extra years and 22,000 extra miles, especially if it hasn’t had the timing belt done. Because at 190k it’s about due again.

ETA: if they could be talked down to $4,500-$4,750 and doing the timing belt then it would be a good deal, provided everything else looks good under thorough inspection

I know that this dealer does like haggling. A friend got a Scion tC from here for about a grand off asking price. The guy said that there is a records book to go along with the car.

I’ve wanted an XT for about two years, but I don’t want to get a poor example and have XTs be ruined for me. Hell, for a while, an XT was my avatar.

They’re fantastic cars for sure, and if you find a good example and take care of it they can be decently reliable. Stay on top of Craigslist and auto trader and you'll find a good example at a decent price eventually, though you may have to travel a couple hours for it.

Yeah, Raleigh is a dead market for nice, manual, Subaru’s. I could go to Asheville or Boone for a nice one, but those are 3.5-4 hour drives. I know that I will have one eventually.

Did you get yours new?

No, I bought mine about 20 months ago
